Been away a while, but never forgot the great site.
I met an older gentleman on the local river, like many fly fisherman we are endowed with the gift of gab; so we stopped fishing started talking, and opened up our fly boxes, and before you knew it, we were swapping flies. ( go figure-right! ).
He showed me a really cool crayfish pattern made of polypropylene ( phentex ), call the poly daddy.
He told me that it was an older pattern, and that he use to buy them to fish with when he was a younger man, many years ago. He could not tell me the origin of the fly, but said he had seen it in old fly tying magazines.
This fly is awesome , especially when fished in the smaller sizes. I have caught bass-pike-walleye, perch, and sunfish on it. Even when it was sitting still on the bottom , it managed to pick up fish!
Can anybody tell me about the history of this fly, were it came form ,or who tied it, when it was created ?
Finally go the time to take there picture.
They are not very big; size 6-8-10-12
Just big enough so larger panfish can gobble them up, when the bass and walleye are not bitting.
If I remember correctly it was a news letter for a round table like group who traded ideas and patterns. Im thinking 30s or 40s era. but I could be way off.
