Peanut diver

I call this little guy The Peanut, mainly because it isn’t much larger than a peanut, which makes it a breeze to cast. With the small Balsa wood body, this pattern dives a bit deeper than most and acts like a small Rapala lure. I trimmed the lip like a squarebill which I have very good luck with. The inline hook rides point up so I can fish it over submerged weed beds. It draws strikes from some fairly large fish for such a small pattern. https://gifyu.com/image/Si0Am

That looks great! The wood part is small, but the overall fly looks big enough to draw the attention of any bass!Does the bulkiness of the tail sort of deaden the wiggling action provided by the bill? Or does the articulation help with that?

That is a nice looking fly.

The body material slows the wiggle down a bit, but the articulated movement makes up for it so it still moves nicely in the water.Jim

Thanks, Rick. These Balsa head patterns are usually not too difficult to make, but this pattern is a bit tricky because it’s so small.Jim
