Pass Lake SBS

More goodness from the Badger State. Tied here as a streamer; I’ve seen it in wet and dry versions, as well as one with Golden Pheasant tippet tail/peacock body (sounds like a Coachman Hairwing).

hook - Mustad 9671 #6
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tail - brown hackle fibers
body - chenille black
hackle - brown
wing - calftail

Part 1

Mash down barb, start thread at 80% mark, wrap back to bend

even tips on a clump of hackle fibers, measure (= body); tie in

strip end off chenille, tie in

move thread back to 80% mark and tie in hackle

wrap chenille forward; tie off and trim

stroke hackle fibers back while winding; tie off and trim

Part 2

stroke hackle back and down, cover with thread

clean, stack, measure (tips a bit past bend) a clump of calftail

tie in, trim butts, create thread head, whip, SHHAN

Scott

Nice, Scott. Rio Grande King-ish

Joe

Here’s one I tied up in the peacock/golden pheasant version.

The only real difference I see between it and a Western Coachman is the thread color. I found the fly on a Wisconsin site, which is where it originated, so you think they’d know; never assume anything, I guess.

dynamite bluegill fly. damn fine job on trout as well.
