panfish?

Every year I forget until it’s too late, but I know that there is generally a good ice out bite for crappie and often times other panfish. Anybody know what H2O temps should be around, and should I look shallow or deep.

Thanks
Jeff

Up here we typically look for the shallow north bays and feeder creeks. They’re following the baitfish into the shallows. Any number of great flies to use. We’re starting to get the itch up here. JGW

Can you clarify “north bays” a wee bit please? Somebody in a local fly shop used that term recently and when I went home and looked at the map for a local fishing spot, it wasn’t clear if he meant the northern-most tip of a bay that runs north-south or along the northern side of a bay that runs east-west (or both).

Thanks.

I always was told to work the darker bottoms also and any warm water shift over cold shallows.
I was told North bays are the ones on the northern side of the lake.

North bays; more sun, protected from north winds… warmer

Also fish along any breaklines as the fish may be staging there.

Rick

Thanks guys.
