Out of Pliobond and can't find any!

I am running out of rubber spiders and I have run out of Pliobond to make more. I have tried some other glues but none seem to work like the original. I have looked and can not find any locally. The only sources I find on the web want to sell me a case or charge me more for shipping than the bottle.

Any ideas?

Clint,
A Google search shows that ACE Hardware stocks it. You may want to visit your local hardware store, and see if they have it, or can order it.

First place I tried. Neither of the closest two stock it but were willing to order it if (again) I wanted 12 bottles. I may just bite the bullet and pay the shipping. I need some other things also and living here in the Black Hole of Flyfishing means I have to mail order.

Bluegil,

Goop [marine] can do alot of the things pliobond does…and more.

Clint,
I’ve got to go out this afternoon, so I’ll swing by our ACE. See what they’ve got, and let you know. You’re only a state away.

We’ll get some and send it to you…or buy half of your “case”, if’n it’ll help.
…lee s.

PS-We got our last bottle in a stationery (sp) store…

Was going to let you know, our ACE hardware store has bottles (3oz) for $3.79 and tubes (1oz) for $2.79. If you want I’ll pick some up and ship it to you…or lee s. can! Let me know!

Betty,

Nice thought but I suggest you check the mailing regulations. It may be a federal offense to mail or ship that stuff and other highly flamable materials.

My suggestion echos one already made. Get GOOP(any of the different types) and thin it with lacquer thinner. You can make it any thickness you want and you’ll have enough for several years.

Can I get some advise? on something some what similar,

It’s been my understanding that,The Flexament we all know and love.
Is only thinned out shoegoo or goop,Does anyone know what and or where one can find the “thinner” for this,In some kind of bulk?
I’ve been wanting this for sometime now,As it gets quite expensive buying this stuff 1OZ. at a time 3-4 bottles at a time,3-4 times each year. so on and so on…
Any and or all help would be so greatly appreciated.

Bill, Pliobond and similar glues can be thinned with Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) or Acetone. Both are readily available at hardware, paint and home improvement centers.

Joe

Well I found some. Bass Pro Shops sells it and I go to Nashville about once a month so will pick some up on the next trip. The response from this group has been tremendous and I want to let you know I appreciate the community’s willingness to help.

I think you’ll find that acetone turns goop or shoe goo in to a globby mess…use acetone for the nail polish products.

Toluene, xylene, I know works for goop…haven’t used lacquer thinner but it probably works and if I remember right maybe mineral spirits.

Just a couple of days ago I thinned an old thickened tube of 100% silicone with xylene.

Hardware stores for the bulk solvents…

Yes ducksterman, use aromatic hydrocarbon solvents (xylene, toluene) for Goop.

For Pliobond use MEK or acetone.

They are not the same type of glue.

Joe

Thank you Gentlemen…I will get both and run some experaments, already have minerial spirits, and it does’nt have the same smell as the thinner in the tenie wenie lil bottles.

Thanks, Joe, Didn’t know that about pliobond and acetone.

Bill, you’ll probably find that the mineral spirits is not a strong enough solvent for glues like Goop, it may turn it cloudy. Solvents like xylene and toluene are much, much stronger. They are also more harmful. Use them in a well ventilated area.

Joe

I tried Liquid Electrical Tape from Home Depot and found it worked better than Pliobond. Naptha works as thinner for Goop, too.

Best thinner for shoe goop is tolulene
