A couple of weeks ago I noticed a nick in my line. I’m sure it got there from accidently stepping on it while fishing from some rocks. At the time it didn’t look to bad, so covered it with pilobond. More concerned about water getting in than it breaking.
Well last night as I was stretching my line getting reading to fish, it broke. So now my wife will have some nice line to tie tomatoe plants up with.
Now where is that stripping basket that I made last year?

You know Jack I am usually pretty careful, but all it took is one time. What is frustrating is that last year I made a stripping basket just to wear when I fish this particular pond. But find it cumbersome when wearing a chest pack. So a basket that cost me less than $8 to make cost me a $50 fly line. Go figure!
Twice in the same summer I had the “leaded” section of a forward weighted line snap in half. Only conclusion was that the line had been nicked somehow. Probably after being hit with a Bunny I was using for walleye. Frustrating and expensive. Since I’ve gone to light chains, since the weighted line gets the fly onto the gravel anyway, I haven’t had a problem. JGW

Learn to use your $10 (level?) line well, and ALL else can be added to that. Many specialty lines are great…but a good operator with a level line will be just a TAD behind in performance. You, like the rest of us, WILL have to try’em though. 
Some of us still believe that a level line is best for delivering big bugs and poppers. AND…there is somewhere on a level line that will balance or load ANY rod.

By level do you mean the same diameter the whole line? I use a WF-6-F line. I do not know if I will switch to a more expensive line as I can only cast 20 yards where I fish. I only fish for bass and bream.
