As a Sergeant in the Military Police in Germany, if you extended for another year there you were granted 30 days extra leave. This was my travel route in September of 1982.
I had a companion along with. She spoke Italian. Her name is Michele Schneider.

We slept in the car every other day and a cheap hotel the other days.

Italy is my second favorite European country.
