Orvis G Thread

I went by the Orvis shop today because I needed some more kevlar thread - need to spin some deer hair. The guy there told me that the Orvis G thread is what Orvis recommends instead of kevlar for spinning deer hair. First I’ve heard of it. It almost looks like a type of monofiliment.

Anyone have any first hand experience with it?

alot of hype, stick to what works my 2 Cents

I’ve used it, it’s strong but it’s not kevlar.

neither would be my thread of choice to spin deer hair.

What would you recommend to spin deerhair if you don’t like Kevlar? That’s pretty much all I’ve used for that…

THANKS!

Jim

Thanks gentlemen - looks like I’ll be placing an order with my friends up in PA.

Its not bad thread but it isnt super super strong, when spinning hair u cant really yank on it real hard cause it will break.

There is a local gentleman that ties beautiful DEER HAIR flies and shows them at all the big shows. I was fasinated with his flies so I watched him tie. He swears by the “G” thread. I have used it and I do like it. Might not be as strong as Kevlar, but it doesn’t cut the hair either. Plus it doesn’t ruin your scissors 8)

Do you know if there is a site that has photos of his deer hair flies?
Thanks,
Doug
