Orvis Clearwater 7'6 3wt

Hey just had my parents pick me up this rod as a cheap, small stream rod. Gonna be using it exclusivly on SMALL streams and even smaller trout. Was thinking about over loading with a wf 4.

Any opinions on this rod? Suggestions?

Thanks
Doug

Can you borrow or do you have a 4 wgt set up so you can try it first?

Has someone baited the overline/underline hook again!?

It’s a gift from your parents. What does it matter?

And what rod would that be that we should have opinions on? - plus, what does the question have to do with the title of the thread, “tying vs buying”?

What’s the flex rating on the rod? 6.0 or lower, just use a wf3.

Hey thanks for all the replys, except for GregH haha.

I probally will jsut use a 3wt on the rod because it is a full flexing 4.5

Any opinions on the quality of this line?

Thanks agian

I believe your rod is built on the same blank as the Superfine “tippet” with a flex rating of (as you say) 4.5.
I have a Superfine 7/11 4 wt with the same flex rating. It is a soft, delicate somewhat graceful rod to cast. My rod anyway is a true 4 wt, no need to overline.
BTW…you can’t make a 3 wt rod be a 4 wt by overlining it. You will find the rod useful just the way it is.
