These are tied with extra large eyes and weigh about 1/4 ounce for drifting/jigging from a boat but I’ve had good luck with them tied with medium eyes for smallmouth.
I can see bass going after those flies. Casting flies that heavy is a challenge for me, but a friend left me a very good fly rod and I think a sinking line for it might help the cause.
This pair will be fished with a spinning rod but the ones tied with medium sized eyes are fishable with a six weight rod. I try to keep the loop open to avoid hitting the rod tip which limits their effective distance but that doesn’t matter on most of the shallow rivers I fish for smallmouth.
Looks like some of the stuff I used to fish for shad with on a 6wt with a Teeny 250 line; batting helmet was optional.
