One more walk in the Park (not FF)

Got a cancellation at Sperry Chalet (wife watched the site like a hawk) on their last weekend. Weather forecast was “changeable” - don’t care about rain in terms of the wet factor but obscuration? that we care about; took a chance anyway.

Part 1

Hope I look this good when I’m in my late 70s

starting gate

won’t dwell too much on the hike up to the chalet (3350’ gain in 6.5 miles, mostly through forest for the first 4.5)

pretty cool fungus (lots of that around)

pretty cool bugs; Dr. Wu

breaking out of the trees, things are looking up (pun intended)

destination

Part 2

dining hall and chalet (hope I look this good in 99 years); some people say the food is just okay, I say hunger is the best sauce

got there about 30 minutes before a real nasty hailstorm hit; other folks were not so lucky

nice neighborhood

Part 3

according to the ranger we talked to, we just missed a run-in with a grizz about 1/4 mile from the chalet

probably 'cuz these were all along the trail; yum

after a good night’s sleep it’s off to (what’s left of) the Glacier; only another 3.5 miles and 1500’ up

uplifting

looking back the way we came

Part 4

into the tarns

critters on the way up

poser

Mufasa

stairway to the top

Part 5

the payoff

Hike down was pretty much the same pics, in reverse. Probably the last big walk in the Park this year, we head back to VA in about 3 weeks; it’s been a nice summer.

Scott
