On-Stream Tobacco, etc..

I smoke a blend of Black Mariah and Lazy Edna in a Petersen rusticated bent pipe. A wonderful aroma and relaxing smoke. Helps to rest a hole too. It runs the bugs off and everyone loves the aroma!

all types of fishermen must pull together for the good of all!!!

Have not smoked in over 20 years; and it was not an easy habit to quit … for me anyway. I had smoked cigarettes, a pipe and cigars; even a little chew now and then. But I was particularly fond of a good cigar, especially those panatellas - they were just the right size. The only thing I really miss today is the cigars.

I have a friend who has a cigar after dinner just about every night … just one. He really gets my goat as I wish I could do that. If I had one cigar right now what I would end up doing is smoking the whole box, one right after the other! They owned my very soul. The best I can hope for today is to be down wind of a cigar smoker so I can get a wiff every now and then.

.

I used to chew when I was bait fishing, Back before I saw the light and started fly fishing. One hand for chew one hand for bait. Then one day forgot what hand was for what. Haven’t had a chew since.

Every day that I wake up and everything still works. Is a good day.

Well I smoke a pack of Light 100’s everyday.
A habit I hafta break one of the days!!
It’s been a 26yr habit.

Butt em out in the water and put in my vest pocket to toss in a garbage bag onshore.
I tend to smoke very little while fishing…my mind is on that big trout!

I take out what I come in with!

I caught a Fish so big once I couldn’t weigh it.
Took a picture of it and the picture weighed 20LBS! (My Dad)

They don’t call it “Copen-heroin” for nothing. Tuff stuff to kick.

Hi All!
I smoked for around 15 yrs. I chewed off and on during that time. Quit all tobacco for six years but started using Cope again. That went on for around three years.
I went to the dentist for a checkup and had him tell me that if the condition of my mouth didn’t improve when I came back to have a cavity filled two weeks later he was sending me to a surgeon for a biopsy. I quit cold turkey right then and there. I have three small children and I will tell you all it was not a pleasant two weeks waiting, worrying and wondering what would happen to my family if I did have the Big C. Luckily the dentist was not concerned when I returned so no trip to the surgeon. That was over a year ago and I swear I won’t touch any form of tobacco again. I can safely say that I had the beejeezes scared out of me which may have been the goal of the dentist all along.
The moral of my long-winded story? There isn’t one other than to say tobacco is highly addictive, evil stuff. Even after the episode with the dentist I still crave Copenhagen.
I guess, for me, the pleasure I will get seeing my children grow to become young adults is far more satisfying than those small moments of pleasure I received when I had that smoke or that dip of Cope.

Skoal Long Cut Wintergreen, H. Upmans, Punch, Te-Amos, all in robusto size

Only when I go surf casting or to drown some sandworms do I smoke a cigar or have a beer. The beer is to relax on those warm summer nights and the cigar is to keep the noseeums off. Other then that I just pack a small snack when I’m FFing.

Don’t know. I quit all vices except fly fishing. I can say however, that a quick snort of a good Canadian Blended Whiskey, after christening a new rod would probably be acceptable. I quit smoking 7 years ago and haven’t missed them a bit. But I would still be tempted by a good cigar. Antonio y’ Cleopatra Grenadier Dark would do nicely. DG, I’ll move downstream. Just don’t kick me out of your camp. OK?

Ya know…sometimes a pipe smoke will bring back memories…unfortunately, they’re of an extreamly physically abusive Grandfather…and cigars will kill a hatch quicker than a bunch of bats…but to see someone spit into the stream right next to me…eeewwwhhh. Nothing in the world like it!

Trouts don’t live in ugly places

Hey Betty ( re: 3rd page post) Perhaps this would be appropriate for a totally different thread but…
When I was 14, I thought my whole immediate family was abusive. My Dad , my Mom, my Grandfather etc. I wasn’t untill I had children of my own that all that abuse came back to my memory. THANKS MOM, DAD, GRAND DAD for preparing me for life. Rest in peace with my graditude and respect.

I’d rather be in Wyoming!

It has got to be me pipe with my black &
brown mix. When the day is in two fingers of the wild turkey on the poarch or beside wood
stove this time of year!!!

I too enjoyed the A. Fuente Hemingway short story. And the Opus X.

Pipe smoke reminds me of my grandfather-in-law who passed not long ago at 96. When his doctor chided him about drinking whiskey and smoking, he offered to drink brandy instead. “Grampa” seemed to like me even before my mother-in-law did and everyone had to follow suit because his word was law. Now that he’s gone, it’s a good thing I’ve grown on them.

A just, stern Grandfather is one thing, a razor strop and wielding fists are something else. I’ve dealt with that already, and moved on. I’m a Grandmother to 5, and would never lift a hand to any of them.
The spitting in the stream is what really gets to me!
