Olive Parachute

Yesterday i walked a river with my friend. He outfished me. At about halfway through i asked him what he was useing. He told me an Olive Parachute. I have never heard of it. Does anyone here have the recipe to it.

Does he mean a blue wing olive tied parachute style? Generally when I tie a parachute I use a turkey flat for the wing post, tie the body according to the standard pattern and wind the hackle horizontally, around the wing post. I use a hackle one size larger - a size 12 hackle on a # 14 hook.

no i dont think it was a BWO.

If he was a real pal, he would give you a sample!

Chuck

Right! A good buddy would have given you one to fish and another to use as a pattern at home. I’m sure it was just an oversight.

your friend should give you a sample to tie

or steal one, take a photo of it and the experts here will decode it for you

Maybe something link this…

Aw come on guys. Good buddies keep good buddies in the dark when one is catching fish and the other is not. It is just the kind of thing good buddies do to each other.

I have kept a good buddie in the dark about where I fish for years. I catch a good mess of big bluegills, he ask “Where did you catch them?” I say "Secret Lake # 1.: or “Secret Lake #2.” and on it goes.

Fishbums are sometimes awfull that way.

fishbum

he only had one left hten he lost it other wise i think i wouldve took one. it isnt the pmd.

tie an adams parachute with olive dubbing and there ya go “olive parachute”

Depending on the pal, I say yes, a sample, or at very least, a recipe is in order.

My best fishing buddy (the one who craps out the least), is a heck of a guy, and I wouldnt even consider tying up flies for a trip without tying a half dozen or so for him. He’s one of those guys who’s just as happy to see you catch a lunker as to catch it himself.

Another of my friends, on the other hand, is almost too competitive to fish with. If he strikes first that’s all you hear about till you “tie it up”, if you strike first, he’s grumpy till he draws even.

HE is the one that, if I were doing good, I’d make up some ridiculous fly name and claim I only had one.

OK, back in the day, I fished with guys that were, “first fish, biggest fish, last fish”.
But, a killer for me is a parachute with an olive biot body.

CDPAUL,

Can’t say for certain what you really want regarding a pattern for an “olive parachute” here’s a couple of my favorite “Olive” patterns.

Let me know if something looks close and I’ll give you more details.

Yea the second one looked simalar but i dont think it is the same one but i think it would have the same effect

cdpaul,

That’s a Klinkhamer style fly. I don’t tie it on the traditional Klinkhamer hook. It’s been consistantly a good fish producer. When I get home I’ll PM you the tying instructions.
