Misti doesnt fish all that often anyway so it won’t matter TOO much.
We are getting married in October and it was an idea of mine to get her a “matching” fly outfit and present it to her afterward. (When we are home and safetly away from the unapperciative glares from the newly acquired female inlaws). Does anyone know which brand of (inexpensive hopefully) flyline might come in dark blue, dark green and some kind of pink (eeew) for a 2wt, 3wt and/or 5 wt? I’m looking for floating line. Amy help would be appreciated. Thank you.
I think S/A has green but I think it is a lighter color. You could get white and color it.I read a post from someone using Rit dye on there flyline ,You then could get a nice pink(ugh) line or (better) dark blue. They said it worked and I believe it was Sientific anglers line too.
Buy her an outfit at least as expensive as your own.
If she does use it, you don’t want someone in the know (like a guide, friend etc.) asking why you got her the cheap stuff yet you fish the nice equipment. That’s the fast way to the cold shoulder.
If she doesn’t really take to fishing and hardly (or never) uses it, then you can use it free of guilt after a few years.
Just remember get the gear that fits her and that will not give her problems. The fastest way to make sure your love one does not share your passions is to get her gear that will give her troubles.
Do not give your loved one, the gear you could not stand to use yourself.
As an example my Father took up cowboy shooting after his retirement. Most of the guy wives have tried the sport but never took it up. My father asking around found out those women had for the most part been given the guns their husbands did not like or that were hard for the men to shoot. The women who took up the sport had all had husbands that had had custom guns made for them. For the most part this had to do with cutting shot guns and riffles down in size. The only exeption seemed to be women who had shot since childhood. My Father went out and had a custom pistol, shotgun and riffle made for Mom. This included having the stock for both the riffle and shot gun cut down to almost nothing so she could craddle the guns in the correct shooting possition, making up for her very short arms. She fell in love with the sport and would rather shoot more then any thing other then cloths shopping. In fact they now shoot all year long and mom even after shooting for only a year, started taking lots of ribbons home. keep in mind, this from a women who had never had much love of the outdoors be it golf, fishing, boating, camping etc.
Trust me I took this leason to hart, when I got my little lady into the sport, I love of flyfishing.
Questions. I never thought about using dye to color a fly line. "Fish"net stockings? Maybe. Fly line? Hmmmmm
I kind of like the idea but it brings up a couple questions. Fly line is specifically designed to repel fluid. Why would it accept a dye? And - don’t you think that the dye would wear off and end up in the guides?
As I said - I know it’s not the best way to shop, but it seemed like the thing to do. You see, we have a friend that may have time to make a custom rod for her before the wedding. I am sure that if she was able to choose her own preferences, she would want a rod that is dark red with pink wrapping or a combination something like that. Know why? Because she saw those pink Fly Logic reels on the internet and wants one very badly. Now you see - how can I possibly order up a nice fly fishing outfit for her - with reds and pinks - and then settle for a yellow line or something thereabouts? She would make me wear a white belt to work with my black shoes in retaliation! OK, she actually doesn’t have any input in the way I dress - but I really was trying to pull it all together for her. She does appreciate well matched items. As far as the blue and green lines go - those would match the other rods that we have hanging around for use. They aren’t too important to match. I got a bit carried away and tried to muddy up the fact that I was looking for a matching pink fly line!
