Oh Deer!

Hair for spinning, coastal deer, belly hair, Comparadun, not to mention mule deer, elk, and moose. What is it all about? Then there is bucktail. Is it in fact only buck’s tail? Or just deer tail, and only whitetail deer or any type? I understand that northern winter killed deer is best, correct? Or does it matter? Yikes!

Making sense of hair?

That’s what we call one of the hard solved ‘mysteries’ of fly tying.

The best way to learn is trial and error. It’s one of the few reamining rights of passage for a fly tyer.

We could spell it out for you, but then we’d deprive you of all that experience.

(this is what you write when you ‘know’ what you look for diffeent things, but have ZERO clue how to readily transfer that knowledge to others…)

Good Luck!
