Went back to the same place as on Sept 27, and caught the same types of fish.I wanted to catch a larger Longnose Gar. And I did! I tied up a new fly specifically for it, and it worked! My new Personal Best Longnose Gar… 47.5", 10+ pounds:Only the head fit in my netWhite Crappies (biggest was 13"):Black Crappies:Freshwater Drum:

Wow, I bet that Gar put up a heck of a fight. Do they just make runs or do they jump as well?Larry —sagefisher—

Nice catch Dave. Now that’s a hedge trimmer for sure. Dennis

It jumped a couple times, and also peeled line off the reel a few times. I was using a 9wt rod. There are even bigger ones at this spot, although I didn’t see them on this trip for some reason. But there are also huge Bighead Carp, I caught the 27" Walleye here, and Flathead Catfish are a possibility. The fly I tied for this fish was a 4.5" articulated streamer. So…yeah, I wanted the 9wt!

extra long cutting edge!
