Observant......... Not!!!!

I tend to be the guy spotting a weird bird hiding in a rose thicket while whistling down the highway at 65. Some things I spot just naturally, like fish and critters and such. Many folks have been chagrined at how good I am compared to themselves.

And no one has ever called me lacking in self-esteem.

So yesterday was a little tough. Early last year I ordered several new rods including a 7’3" 3wt. I conned Danbob out of a Hardy Flyweight reel in trade for a camera lens and bought a 3wt triangle taper floater. I never really warmed to how slow it was and only fished it for grayling a few times. But I did happen to catch two surprise lake trout on the rod. The first a 15" and the second was quite a bit larger.

I was proud of the moves I put on the larger trout, running downstream and giving him a big line belly to fight in the current. I brought him to hand on video in just a couple minutes and had him back swimming in no time. Remember that point about no one suggesting I lack self-esteem?

A short while back I stumbled on a great deal on a Hardy JLH Ultralight with an unknown WF floating line. It cast like a rocket! So I fished it several more times and liked it more everytime.

So yesterday I was fishing with it and noticed something… In big bold numbers the rod says 2WT right on it! The sock says 2WT, right on it! For all those days fishing it and all those times messing with it I had overlooked the obvious.

A quick check of the email I ordered the rod with shows clearly a 3WT was ordered. Dug out the receipt and it says 3WT was shipped.

Oh well, I have come to really enjoy the little guy now that it casts a little faster. And I am not old enough to claim a senior moment…

Great story Hap, sure brought a smile to my face.

“Senior moments” can have a humbling effect. For some of us, anyway.

Enjoyed your moment of discovery, Art with red face.
