Hi,
I have purchased what I think is a Horrocks and Ibsen blank. So far, just taken out of the tube. The reel seat is installed, no guides or tip top. Now, where do I go from here? Any suggestions as to where to start are welcome. Books, youtube etc, I’m willing to learn and do this right.
I would be willing to trade other rods, fly boxes, materials etc if that helps.
Thanks very much for any ideas!
Mike
I suggest that you go to one of many sites to get suggest guide spacings and fly guide sizes. Additionally practice wrapping guides with a pencil tensinoing the thread between the pages of a phone book. Finish the guides with a varnish diluted with turpentine, about 10-15%. I prefer to apply the varnish with a round toothpick. I als0 prefer wrapping guides with a 8/0 nylon thread. Good luck

Thanks very much Fritz and John! Also to Ladyfisher! Keep those links coming. I retire in a month and this will be one of first projects!
Thanks,
Mike
I am not sure anyone stated the obvious “100 tips for rod builder” sticky at the top of this section, but just in case the obvious was overlooked.

Thanks Uncle Jesse, as soon as I posted my question, I saw the link that Ladyfisher provided! I’ve googled some things and as I approach retirement I see the wrappings on the rod forming!
