Not a Rod...but pretty cool

Well it’s not a rod, but this section of the site is where I like to spend my time here so figured I’d share something kind’a neat with you guys.

Well my mind wandered again tryin’ to come up with something different to take along to the Midwest Fly Fishing Expo along with rods this weekend to have at the booth. I had an idea (scary I know) so after a trip to BPS, Micheal’s Craft Store and the hardware I came home with some bags of goodies, tossed in a couple fly fishing DVD’s and 4hrs later this emerged from the depths of the shop. Originally I was going to center the net over the wood base, but I had an idea to use a thin piece of wire in the rear of the net and then anchor the front lip of the net by filing a “flat” on the lower edge so I could bottom drill a screw up into it. Done this way you cant see anything holding the net to the base and it looks like it’s almost floating in the air. Also attached the trout to the front of the net so there’s no visible things holding the trout either. Coated the river rocks with two coats of clear enamel to give them a “edge of the river wet look”. And what trout is complete with a fly in it’s mouth so I mounted a Hendrickson with a leader coming off of it in his chops.

… and it certainly reflects the creativity that you bring to your rod building.

Can’t think of a better place for you to post this work of art.

Thanks for thinking of us.

John

P.S. The pics are outstanding, too.

Awesome! Did you carve the trout or it is a premade form??? Regardless, very nice.

Orthoman the trout is a 13" fiberglass reproduction that is sold through Bass Pro Shops and is made to be hung on the wall, I just removed the rear mounted hanger from it.

Steve

Pretty cool, but shouldn’t you net a fish head first, haha.

Your atristry continues to amaze!

Here’s a better pic of both of them now all done and clear coated.

What Cliff said.

Very Very Nice. Why is it that your artwork is just plain FUN to look at? Fly rods, hot cake flippers, and now this. I always seem to be pleased at your creativity.

Man, I must say you do some beautiful work with that creative mind you have…very nice. I love to see what other folks can come up with while at play. I guess that is what makes our pastime so interesting.

Wow! That is awesome.

I am in awe of your skills. Any interest in selling one of them?

Thanks for all the kind comments guys.
Carp I would sell ya one of them but I don’t have any idea how it would ship and yet still make it in one piece though.

Steve

Never thought of how to get it to my door. I suppose next time i am in your neck of the woods I’ll have to look you up and transport it in my Jeep. Keep the pics coming. We all love to see what you have come up with next and I’m sure it has given others some great ideas.

Absolutely wonderful - isn’t fly fishing grand? So many aspects to explore. If you are bored as a fly fisher, you just aren’t trying…
Thanks so much for showing us/

Ditto… WOW!

Those are EXCELLENT, Steve!
However…I’m going to start looking at your fishing pictures VERY CLOSELY from now on…to make sure they are REAL! LOL
