My wife has been bugging me about planning a long weekend getaway. Since I have the best wife in the world, she actually tries to HELP me plan our trips around fishing. We have a free airline ticket to use before the end of June. She loves Salt Lake City after having travelled there for work a lot, a few years ago. So my question to the group is this…
Is there anywhere within a reasonable drive (< 2hours) of Salt Lake City where I could get fish while either wading or from the shore of a lake? Although my wife does not fish, she has expressed in interest in going with me as a spectator. A float trip would be a second option, but not preferred.
Not looking for honey holes, just some general information. PM if you prefer, or post to the board for everyone’s benefit.
I enjoyed the area around Park City and the Uintas. I think it’s close enough for you. The Provo River is what I remember.
Had luck with hare ear nymphs.
there are big trout in strawberry reservoir…i think a float tube and a big black wooly bugger would be the way to go…park city area is nice as mentioned and deer creek reservoir has big trout as well…salt lake is a nice area…i grew up just north of slc
Be aware that if you’re fishing streams that cross private property, Utah just changed their tresspass laws to a very angler unfriendly situation. Sections of the Provo fall into this category. There are several reservoirs around, where this won’t be a concern. Here’s a couple of links to look at. Scroll down. http://www.utahfishfinder.com/fishing.shtml
What Lew said. We actually ended up with LESS right of way than before we started this battle. It is insane and all about the $ not the people.
Anyway, I live right here in the heart of the city of salt. What time you thinking? I do have a couple of pontoons and fins, you just need waders and boots.
If interested, give a shout.
Thanks for all of the feedback. Fly Goddess, thanks for the nice offer. I just might take you up on it! I’ll check back with everyone when we have the plans and date set.
You won’t get a better offer than that my friend. Joni and her Husband are hard wired in to where the action is, and following them around will give you a good education. Snap that one up.
