Nikon Coolpix 4300

Anyone have one? Comments? I am looking for a blend of macro capabilities for non-pro work as well as a good point and shoot for family work.

The 4300 seems to fit that bill…adn I know that the Nikon Coolpix line has a fan club.

I bought my wife the 4100 for Christmas and I am quite impressed. Have not taken any shots with the macro modes yet though.

I’m using the nikon coolpix 4300 and I can say that I’m happy with it. It makes easily pictures and you can also use your own modifications.
The photo’s on my website are made with the coolpix!
See topic portable flytying bench.

Besideas having macro capabilty to .4", if you fish also, this camera is well worth a look: [url=http://www.pentaximaging.com/products/product_details?reqID=6442215&subsection=optio:496f2]http://www.pentaximaging.com/products/product_details?reqID=6442215&subsection=optio[/url:496f2]
I have the WR-33 and wouldn’t swap it for the world, except maybe for the WP in the above link!

I have been using a 4300 for about 4 months now and I am very pleased with it. It is not really a pro’s camera but then a pro’s camera would probably get me all confused, to many extra controls. There are probably more up-to-date cameras out there, but they are at up-to-date prices. There are some real bargain 4300s on e-bay etc.
Al Campbell recommended this camera and it was an excellent piece of advice for someone who wanted a good camera for fly tying and trips.

I have to agree with Jacksteron the Pentax Optio. Especially if getting the camera is a concern.

Barry,

Please explain…

“…especially if getting the camera is a concern.”

I have the 4300 and think it is a great buy. I photograph midge patterns in sizes 20-24 and the detail comes out great. Below are a few to show as examples.

Also, you will like this camera for basic use for the family, etc. Enjoy!
