how many flies about will 1/4 oz of marabou get me if i am tying size 6 and 8 wooly buggers. thanks. i am just wondering so then i know if i should buy more then 1/4 oz.

It depends on how thick you tie your tails. My shop likes heavy tails and we use two plumes on all #6 buggers and some eights (depends on plume size). For us, 1/4oz would only cover a couple dozen give or take, depending on the amount of junk/unusable feathers. If you like buggers, buy full ounces. Marabou is cheap.

I prefer shorter and sparser tails on my buggers than Longs For Cutts does. I can get four to eight dozen, maybe a few more, from one 1/4 ounce pack of maribou. It really depends on the quality of the feathers. You can extend this somewhat, and I do this often, by using the side barbs on the plumes that some throw away. I’ll often be able to tail three flies from a single plume.
All that being said, unless you are going to tie all of your wooly buggers with the same color tail I’d suggest buying more marabou, just buy several different colors. Like Joel states, it’s cheap and won’t go to waste.
