New Storm Report Thread

Hey Gang,
Rather than have one thread run 47 pages, let’s start a new one.
Let’s have folks from the storm-affected report in. Alabama got hit hard. Other states apparently were hit less hard.

Ed

Alabama was really hit hard with 131 deaths so far. Georgia got hit much less severly with only 13 deaths mainly in the NW corner of the state. We got a 1 am wake-up call of a tornado warning and to take cover immediately. We herded up our 3 dogs and spent about 45 minutes in the central bathroom before it seemed like the storm had moved on. It’s been a crazy storm season so far. The tornado that hit Tulcaloosa Alabama was a category F5 tornado almost one mile wide. It stayed on the ground all the way from Tuscaloose to North Georgia slightly over 100 miles. My prayers go out to all those who had loved ones injured or killed or suffered property damage. It’s a pretty helpless feeling sitting in your house at night waiting and listening for the dreaded roar of wind when tornados strike. I sure hope that all of our FAOL friends across the storm damaged area made it through okay. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

Ed,
Great post.

Jim,
Very well said. We are praying for the safety of all. Still have not heard from Dave fishdog54. We dodged a bullet with trees and roofs being destroyed along with the quarter sized hail in our own yard but the Shamokin area got rocked hard too. So did Adams, York and Lancaster counties. Hoping that Dotman, Bamboozle, Heritage Angler and the rest of the Pa Gang are alright too.

Praying very hard for all of our FAOL members and the citizens in the path of natures wrath.

God Bless,
Eric

P.S. almost forgot that the main stem of the Susquehanna River will go over flood stage at Harrisburg sometime Friday night to Saturday morning.

Nighthawk, Yellow Breeches is 3 feet above flood stage right now, but is starting to fall. Susquehanna is right at flood stage now and still going up.

Big mess down in New Cumberland this morning, but it’s looking OK now. I heard RoundTop got a lot of damage, one of my son’s friends at school had their house badly damaged.

I had to drive through that mess in New Cumberland this morning going to the depot. Let me know if those folks need clothes, food or anything. Will help where I can.

Jim, It wasn’t until this afternoon that I realized the storms got as close as they did to Conyers, hitting Madison. Up on the north end of Gwinnett County we got some rain and there was an extraordinary amount of white oak bark on the ground but no wind damage that I know of. I send at pm to Chris down in Clinton, MS who said he was fine and talked with Ms. WarrenP and Jack Hise yesterday afternoon, I think the storms were east of them last night.

My prayers are for all our friends in your area. And for our friends in Dixie. Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi & Arkansas. All of our family up and down the Mississippi River Valley and the Ohio River Valley.

Nighthawk/All,

Got hit with heavy rains, some early stuff slid by to the northwest with barely a sprinkle! That one looked bad! I sit up pretty high above the flood plain, but could get hit by water coming down from higher elevation - did not, so I’m lucky! Roof is leaking, but can’t complain - some folks lost their roofs completely in other states! I’m not hearing any reports of anything significant in my immediate area - so far! Not at all worried about myself, but folks near the Susquehanna River, is a different story, plus the bad situation in the southern states, all the way to Louisiana!! Ground is saturated everywhere but where it’s needed most! Be careful All, don’t take any chances!! Stay safe!

Respectfully, Dave S.

Uncle Jesse,

Thanks for checking on us here in Tennessee. We are fine with no damage, but, about 15 miles away in Winchester, TN, they had a tornado with damage plus Chattanooga. Our home is fine. We did lose power Wednesday evening at 5:30pm when the tornado hit Winchester and the power came back on around noon today. When we lose power at our home we also lose the phone, so, I was not able to respond until power and phone were back up. I believe most of the really bad damage and lost of life was Alabama and Georgia. Prayers are needed in those areas.

Again, thanks for checking…

I’m sure glad everyone is ok. i’ve lost jack’s phone number or I would have called. Dana’s taking her finals so I don’t get to use comp this week.

Just like a lot of other folks, Missouri has gotten pounded.

Last Wed, we had the tornado that ripped through St. Louis. It ripped the roof off of part of the airport and it was shut down for a couple days.
48,000 people were out of power over that ordeal. Things are quickly being cleaned up.

In southern Missouri, there have been bad storms and a lot of rain. Some areas saw over 12 inches of rain in the span of one week.
Water has been spilling over levees and flooding many towns in SE Missouri.

The Mississippi river is very high and now there is a lot of debate about breaking a levee on the Missouri side of the river to save a small town in southern Illinois.
If they do break the levee, over 100,000 acres will be flooded. If they don’t break the levee and the small town in Illinois floods, it will displace about 2800 residents.
The little town is right where the Mississippi river and Ohio river meet.

So it’s been a tough spring all over. Hope everyone is safe.
