New Single-Handed Fly Casting Record

On Aug. 5th, Steve Rajeff broke his own single-handed fly casting record of 239 ft. which he held for 20 years. The new cast was made at the American Casting Association event in Toronto. It now stands at 243 ft.

WOW! I’ll clap for that one.

Geez, a 20 year old record and I thought Steve was a kid!

I have watched him at the Golden Gate Casting Ponds. He is able to get maximum load out of a rod which sends the line hurling at breakneck speed. It’s mindblowing to watch. Just amazing.

I hope they got that record breaking cast on video. I sure would like to watch that.

But can he do it with a tandem of weighted size 6 stonefly nymphs and an indicator ??

But, will it catch fish???

No. That is great. Somebody needs to set the bar higher for those coming along behind.
Amazing!

I can on occasion cast the whole line. But, that’s 2.7 fly lines at 90’ each. Amazing.

I, too, can throw the whole fly line - as long as I keep it all on the reel !!

Actually, I can probably cast part of the line further than I can throw the reel ??

I got to see Steve put on a demonstration a few years ago with both a single hand rod and a 2 hand rod. It was an amazing demonstration to say the least. Of course his distance casting setups are just that distance casting rigs and likely not much good for fishing. I also got the opportunity to sit and talk with Steve for awhile. Nicest guy you would want to meet and he loves to fish as much as any of us, if not more.
