New Rod Holders

As most of you know, Jack Hise has got him a new Kia Soul. Well, Ol’ Jack and I are taking a trip out west again this year and he said that a pair of rod holders for the roof of the car would be nice to transport rods from spot to spot. Got the thinking cap out and decided that the Soul needed a little class. Below is what I came up with…

The rockets are half scale Sidwinder missles. The missles are 5 and a half foot long and 2 and a quarter inches in diameter. Each will hold up to a 10 foot rod taken down to two sections. They are padded with foam pipe insulation to cushion the rods. Rods are held in place with velcro tie downs.

I think they look good on the Explorer…should look great on the Soul.

What could go wrong with those on the roof traveling across the west?

Brad, I suspect that driving into the west with a couple of rockets attached to the roof may be a wee bit of a risk when passing through militia territory plus you would probably get pulled over more than a few times by Johnny Law. Well Brad, are you using “rocket” line on those reels? You’ll be the hit of the west! Don’t go too close to Area 51!

The first trip with them will be to Michigan for the Michigan Fish In. It is near one of the largest National Guard bases in the nation. I will be sure to have bail money in my pockets.

I have a feeling that we get some free room and board on the way o Wyoming!!:smiley: I also have to drive through Arnold Air Force Base to get home!! At least he didn’t stencil USSR on them!

You sure? I thought they were built in LaGrange, GA! Ford and GM shutdown their plants in GA (the Ford plant was the most cost efficient one they had) so Kia moved to GA, Honda, Hundya & Mercedes are in AL, BMW in SC, Nissan in TN, Toyota & Nissan is MS.

I’d prolly come up with a back-up way to secure the rods. If the velcro lets go then its bye-bye rods
