New Orvis Flylines

It looks like I need to replace floating DT3 and WF5 wt lines. Orvis had a sale on the newest, bestest, mostest modernest, casts all by itself, who could possibly buy anything else or even think of fishing last years best super line. The Hydros lines. I was thinking I might order a couple, but a number of the reviews on the Orvis website are not very positive. The coatings seem soft and sticky and are difficult to keep clean and cast (according to some reviewers). 40% would not recommmend the line I was looking at. I still have a few of those first generation Sylk lines that were uncastable adn are now holding up tomato plants in the garden and don’t need to waste any more money. Anyway - has anyone used the new Hydros lines and would like to comment on their fishability?
Thanks, David

Most of my lines now are Orvis Gen III, bough ton clearance over the winter. Like them alot. But have not fished the Hydros, and have seen the reviews as well.

On the Sylk lines?..Love my DT3. On my glass rod it casts exceptionally well for me.

I read the reviews as well. I don’t know what the difference is between the Hydros and Hydros 3D, other than price. But I suspect it may have to do with the coating. Whether or not that justifys paying $89.00, or not I don’t know. But it (the 3D) got rave reviews.

David, I think you should buy the $89.00 3D in a wf4f and if you don’t like it you can give it to me.

I assume this means that no one has used the new Orvis lines. Just for that none of you will be allowed to buy the new $1,300 Sage flyrods.

DANGIT! Thanks djo…I was planning on ordering one online this afternoon. :frowning:

I bought their Wonderline gen 3 off clearance. They have been excellent lines for me.

I have a Hydros 3D bass line, I like it a lot. No problems as far as sticky coating, keeping it clean or anything. The taper is very front heavy (its a bass line after all) and does a nice job slowing down the Helios to a fishing speed rather than a showing off speed. Your mileage may vary as I haven’t tried the trout lines at all… Though if you arent in a hurry, I just ordered one in a 4 weight to go on my new SFT and I can at least give you my opinion in a couple days.
