New Mag/light

Looking through the Woodworker Magazine, hubby spotted this and ordered it for me:

Came yesterday and already in use.

The lights around the Magnifier are cool, but not quite as bright as I thought they would be. BUT, they do illuminate the fly.
I also got the spot light which again, I thought it would be brighter, but it works great to photograph a fly.

It comes with a metal clamp on base and the magnet on the light is unbelievable. I am still trying to break the connection…LOL

The light runs off 3 AAA batteries or it comes with an AC adapter.

All in all, I really like this and it is going to be so much nice to travel with because of its size and weight.

that’s cool joni! i want the jet wood lathe but jeezo beezo are jet products expensive or what?

The flies I tie look bad enough at arms length in dim light - no way I want to see them at 5X magnification with all that light on them !!

They are cool lights. I have a couple of them for my shop and like them very much. Like you said, not the brightest, but the leds remain cool and the magnifier is very good.

Joni, now that you have had the light for a month or so how would you rate it? I hate putting the money into a McKenzie and thought this might be a good alternative. I would be probably order the spotlight version. Can you tell the difference when running on AAA vs. AC?

Also, what vise are you using it with?

Thanks

I am using the Renzetti Traveler. I love it. Like I said though, it is not REAL bright, but definitely bright enough on the fly when tying. I don’t notice any difference in the battery versus the plug in. I think I got about 7 hours of light out of the batteries, give or take a few minutes.
I would buy it again no problem. I am totally satisfied with it. But I want to again say…they do not bring a wide range of light, but more focused on one area, so they do not light up a whole bench.

Thanks sound just like what i need.

I just noticed that the item on http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=21264 , which includes both the magnifier head AND the spotlight head is “oversold” but can be reserved.

I just happen to have an extra lighted magnifier head if anyone is interested in buying it at a discount or a swap. It is brand new and never even been illuminated but I would test it before I shipped it out of course. Let me know.

I have been considering something like this because I am about to start tying smaller flies for trout. I have been primarily fishing larger flies for steelhead & smallmouth in the past. What other LED light setups are avaliable that others have used???

An older friend gave me a fluorscent lighted magnifer on a stand with rollers. It’s large and bulky but I took it off the stand and made a mount onto my desk. Works good 2 small bulbs give good light.
