My favorite visor, a Simms Rivertek, needs replacing. Bought it 3 years ago and it appears Simms no longer makes the model.
It was superb in keeping sun/reflection out of my eyes on the water because of the wide and 4 inch long brim. Every other visor I’ve looked at has the “now-in-style” short brim which is pathetic for reducing glare.
Anybody know of a visor with a 4 inch or longer brim?
If you have the latest Bean catalog there’s an offer for free shipping if use the code on your mag. BTW, the catalogs cover is done by M. Simon, an old Boulder fly fisherman.
Lefty Kreh does not approve of the long billed hats/visors as they hide you cast! (They do!!) I would go with a Tilley for complete protection, ears, neck, nose, etc.
A sage observation Bambozzle. If the item were “perfect” for many flyfishers, it would continue to be made. Seeing as how it is “perfect” only for thee or me suggests we are very peculiar indeed.
Thanks Donat, but when I went to site and clicked to “buy” the browser displayed another site (Sierra Trading Post) and the visor could not be found as an item in their inventory.
I just buy the “house” visor from whatever fly shop is in the area. I usually wear my hair extremely short, so it’s not all day wear for me. Usually early morning or late afternoon/evening wear.
The heck with hiding the cast, I won’t pay for half a hat, because I need to ‘hide’ my male pattern baldness! LOL!!! BTW, male pattern baldness is not a problem that can be fixed, because it is a genetic adaptation brought on by our continued manipulation of our living environment, ie. clothes, heat, comfy homes etc. I’m no expert, just a human walking around, minding my own business (sometimes) and evolving! Baldies are the new cavemen! Ha!
Who cares what Lefty thinks?
What does that mean exactly…“hides your cast”?
Might be a good thing from the fishes perspective?
Personally, I try to not think about or watch my casts.
