Missing the Kansas Fish-in wasn’t a total loss (still wish I’d have been able to go, though) as I paid off the lawaway on my kayak (my first) and got it on the water. The first time out I didn’t know what to expect so I left perishables like my camera and my good rod back at the truck and just got out and paddled around. But Sunday I was back on the water, this time with camera and rod in hand. It was a perfect afternoon between the rounds of thunderstorms. Breezy enough to drift, but not too fast to fish, which is important since I don’t have the anchor attached yet, and on the lake I was at, the aquatic weeds are thick enough I could pull up on an island of them and fish around me if I didn’t want to drift. Caught lots of fish and got about three hours on the water before last nights thunderstorms sent me packing. Took some getting used to, but a lot of fun! Can’t wait to get out again!
Now we need to plan a trip and fish out of what ever floats. That is the biggest bass I have seen landed at that lake.
There was also a big (5+ lb.) channel that managed to break my leader before I could get him in the boat or get a picture. I’ll have to remember the net next time:roll:

Congradulations on your new boats. If your ever passing thru Ky, I have the Peabody Wildlife Management area near me, (lots of strip mine lakes). We care give them a try.

Luckily, around here, if there’s no motor and no sail, there’s no need for numbers either. Makes owning a small boat nice and simple.
Congrats! I been fishing out of the yak for about 8years now and love it. The state of Ohio require registration and boat number to be on the craft but no where else does so far.

Betty, the first pic, with the paddle across the yak and the fly rod pointing off one end, the rod is pointing off the bow. The pic is deceiving because the seat back is leaning forward in a halfway folded down position. With the seat in the full upright position (to the left in the pic) where the paddle sits would be right across your lap if you were in the boat.
Yep, what Bass Bug said. So far I’ve only been out on my own, so I have no pictures of me in it yet. The fact that the seat is almost dead center does make it a little harder in the picture to tell whether you’re coming or going.

I was out in my kayak for only a hour in our club one fly tourney. Didn’t have a lot of time to pop a top, but will be ready the next time out. The heat is so bad up hear right now, I might have to fill the cooler with Gatorade. I don’t want to pass out at the paddle, and have the rangers ask me to get out and try to walk a straight line.

Nice yak, the spitfire was my first. Fun, easy to paddle around in, and light. Mine fit easily into the back of my ranger. Your going to have a blast with that one… Congratts on the new toy!

Here right now it is about 100 degrees, and with a wind that would blow the ribbing off a gold ribbed hare’s ear.

Hi folks! First post here. Glad to see I am not the only one with yak fever it is awesome. Both my wife and I have on. Mine holds 650 lbs leaves me 300lbs for cargo, so don’t think yaks are just for small people lol
