My first flies

I made a bunch of y2k’s. I even have a ytk my 7 year old tied, and one my 5 year old tied in baggies I plan on keeping forever. I had to separate them, because they looked every bit as good as mine. Ignore the zebra midge. All I had for the wire was some heavy wire I used on the ytk’s.

The woolybugger is a vision in red. All I had at the time was red chenille and red hackle. If I catch a red fish with it I will let everyone know.

My my best fly so far, a prince nymph…I think. I still have limited supplies, so the hackle I used was all I had and looks a little long, but I still made all of my neighbors and friends look at it and feign interest.

Should I trim the hackle on the nymph?

I’d fish that nymph just the way it is. On the next one, though, make the hackle a bit shorter. General rule of thumb is about half of what you have there for length. Reach to the point of the hook but no farther than the bend. The woolly bugger looks good, too.

Just keep tying. They look good. Have fun and use what you have.
