My first brassie with a little change (i think)

Ok so i was watching some tying videos and watched the making of the brassie. simple and quick fly. And best of all i ad some of what they wanted. Well not the real fly hook but i did have a regular hook in the size that matched the copper wire i have. So i clamped her in and tied it. tell me what yall think. I didnt have the peacock hurl so i used a pigen feather.

Hope i do this right

Thread 8/0 black
hook size 8 i think
coper wire from phone line
white baby pigen feather for heckle
and black nail polish head

Nice fly, looks like a brass softhackle it ought to catch fish, you might find a sharpie and before tying the next one add some color to the pigeon feather, its amazing what you can do with out the “proper” stuff. tie up a dozen or so.

Nice job

Eric

here is a good article on how to fish soft hackles

Hi,

I agree, that will work nicely as a deep water soft hackle pattern. Looks good.

found some others that are different colours guy next door races them so i will raid the coops lol

I’ve used some of the blue grey feathers from pigeon for softhackles. A great dun hackle. They are nice hackles for a yellow thread body with just a touch of dubbing (a mist).

Charlaine,

What you need to do is take it out to a stream or lake and get an expert’s opinion. If the fish like it, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.

gonna do that soon

first, nice fly, good luck with it!
and now i dont mean to continue this further, but i didnt see a new thread about it, but my girlfriends family actually has peacocks and a few other birds and ive been planning on using feathers from them as they fall out, etc. I have read past articles on bugs, but after seeing these posts i will definitely take extra special care to keep them separated and cleaned, but i cant turn down free, useful materials right?

Hi Charlaine,

Nicely done!

Regards,

Gandolf

I like that fly. Would probably look very nice also using some Guinea Fowl feathers (Michaels craft store sells a pack of those died in various bright colors for really cheap).
