My first bamboo rod

Should be in my hands within a week. I have never cast a bamboo rod but thought it was time. I hope this isn’t the beginning of another habit I can’t afford.

The maker is Chris McDowell in Eugene, OR.
It is a 7 1/2’ 4 weight with a parabolic action. I can hardly wait to try it out on some Dollies and Rainbows.

Misty,

Welcome to the darkside. Your wallet will never be the same. Congrats on the new boo.

I purchased a 7 1/2’ 4 wt. ‘Blitzen’ from Chris earlier this year.

Wonderful, light-line rod I’ll be using on the small and medium streams I fish.

Chris is a journeyman rodmaker who does fine work. If I understand correctly, one of his tutors was A.J. Thramer, and the McDowell rods reflect this in their tapers and appearance.

I like the understated elegance of the Blitzen rods: richly flamed cane, jet black silk windings, black oxidized guides and Struble cap and ring seat, walnut insert, perfect varnish. Just an all-around great trout rod with a fantastic medium-fast action and strong, simple looks at a very reasonable price. This will be one of my favorites.

Hope you enjoy yours.

oh yeah, and Noah is right… this may lead to a serious addiction. i’m not sure whether to congratulate you or offer my sympathies…

I hope both of you are correct. I have a couple of rods to “break” in this year. Me thinks the bamboo will get the nod.

It can’t get here soon enough, there are Rainbows and Dollies just waiting for the wood.

Misty

I am looking at something similar. What reel & line did you decide to put on your new boo…
Bill

Does he have a website?

I don’t have the rod yet, but at the moment a Ross Colorado #1 is the front runner. I have a nice little Bauer M1 that I use for my other 4 weights but it might look out of place.

No go on the website, his e-mail is
