The mulberry hatch was on in a city lake in North Omaha. What was needed was a fly that would make a plopping sound, and sink slowly. The only thing in my flybox that fit the bill was a LocoMoco fly. It worked! Caught 3 common carp under the same tree. Carp were fighting over it. Had to have patience, and wait for them to come back a few minutes after netting. Tight lines!
Nice fish. I’ve been thinking about the mulberry hatch. I came across a white mop with short stubby mop pieces, about 3/4 inch long. Found a couple of different colors of purple fabric paint which I thinned with water and used to it dye some of the pieces. Tied unweighted on a size 8 caddis pupae hook, they look like they’d make an excellent mulberry fly. They plop when they hit the water and sink slowly. Just have to find a local stream or lake with a mulberry tree hanging over it to see if they work
If you could find the right color yarn, I would think an egg fly would work. Just a thought
That’s good times right there! ![]()
@jmcall I don’t think color matters much. The locomoco fly I was using was brown/yellow for the foam section & peacock color ice dub for the body, brown hen feather for collar. I think the noise and the sink rate are more of a factor.
That looks like a lot of fun! Nice work!
Mulberries are ripening in my area as well. The carp and catfish are willing to hit just about anything you throw under those trees! ![]()

Cool pics Dave!
