Not sure if this has been previously discussed but I use Mucilin(red) fly dressing and upon some research have found some articles that say the Mucilin will damage all lines except silk.
I use it also to dress my lines to help them float better and also the Mucilin helps in the winter to keep the guides from freezing over. I have used this product for the last 4 yrs without problems.Any opinions?
JC;
seems the fly shops overseas have this warning,shops in the US don’t.Wonder why?
Anyway I’ll continue to use it.It does help control the icing on the guides better than anything i’ve used so far.Do you have any in the metal cans?Plastic seems to be all they sell now.
As for your stock,buy buy.See ya
If you’ve been using it for 4 years without any trouble, then take the statements from others with a grain of salt. Was their recommendation to stop using mucilin, or fly line? lol
There’s always someone out there trying to make things work their way or no way. Keep using your mucilin if it’s working and change your line when it wears out. That way you keep everyone’s stocks from crashing.
Oh yeah, thanks for the tip about mucilin and iced guides. I gotta get me some o’ dat!
There’s almost nothin’ wrong with the first lie, it’s the weight of all the others holdin’ it up that gets ya’! - Tim

MO-probably the best stuff for iced guides that i have used.Yea first time i have heard of it damaging fly lines,supposed to take off the coating and the line will crack,I’m thinking my line is just fine.The ad for the Mucilin says don’t use it on fly lines. Of course in Ohio we have no trout and no bass and very very small pan fish so we don’t fish much,therefore we don’t need to replace our gear often.
Ohiotuber can attest to that,I don’t think Mike buys anything.
Mike E is right…I don’t HAVE to buy anything…I just WIN stuff!
BTW, I’ve only seen it in the metal cans. I’m out now, so I’ll see what the cans are made of next time I buy.
Mike
Hey Mike E…where in Ohio ARE you?..I’m guessing Dayton or north of there. Get signed up for our Michigan Fish-In!!!

I’ve also used the red Mucilin for so many years that I’m hard pressed to remember just when I started. Certainly when I was using the old silk lines; and at that time learned to use it for a floatant as well … would rub a tad of it between my finger & thumb and then work it into the hackle of the dry flies. Now, I’ve tried a lot of other products as well, but ALWAYS have a tin of “Red” with me, too!

Just plain has the feel of old school,I like that.When I find something that works I stay with it until something better comes along,sounds like others do the same.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
