I’m staying in Guerneville Ca second week of September on the Russian River. While the river seams only to have warm water fishing I was hoping to get into the salt at the mouth or somewhere close by. Any suggestions and if so what kind of rods/reels should accompany me? The local sites out there are not much help.
Do you have floatation? From the beach perch are possible at Goat rock and some rock fish are available from the rocky stuff north of the mouth. It used to be that lings and salmon followed large schools of anchonies to the beach in August and a bit in Sept. A yak or boat would open almost sure opportunities at blue rock fish, lings and other rockfish within a couple miles of the river. Only for the king salmon or ling cod do I see a need for anything more than 6wt-7wt gear. It is nothing like east coast fishing.
Got any interest in local farm pond bass?

We can maybe hook-up for an afternoon or a day and I can take you to some ponds that generally produce well for us. There should be some active smallies in the Russian then too.
