Mouse pattern

This didn’t get an answer elsewhere so I’ll try here…

Do you have a favorite mouse imitation pattern?..preferably relatively simple, quick, effective, and maybe foam …
What is it? ,pictures…

Have you tried my Leech Mouse here on FAOL?

You get three flies from tying just one: A surface mouse, a drowning mouse and a leech.

A three-for-one deal! Two materials, a hackle feather and some cross-cut rabbit strips.

Hi Richard. Missed this one the first time around. Simple and looks great. I’ll let you know how it works in the Northeast.

I have been tying these ever since LadyFisher posted a link to it: [url=http://www.flyanglersonline.com/flytying/fotw/122198fotw.html:4b12b]http://www.flyanglersonline.com/flytying/fotw/122198fotw.html[/url:4b12b]
Have’nt been able to get one on the water though, people keep steeling them.

Here is a FOTW Mouse that has foam as one of the materials. These are not all that difficult to make. They sure are effective on big trout!

Tie in a tail of some kind of leather or rubber.
Wrap some foam around a hook. Wrap a fur strip of your choice around the core from back to front. Cut out some little leather ears and glue them behind the googly eyes. The whiskers are moose hair.

There is a fine line between fly fishing and standing in a river waving a stick, and YOU SIR have crossed that line!

Someone once posted instructions on tying a deer hair mouse that was not spun hair. The post got deleted before I had a really good chance to put it to memory or paper. Did anyone catch it?

I think Mr.Dave Whitlock’s Mouse pattern (forget the name of the pattern) is stacked Deer Hair and not spun.

JC,
I had it posted in the Warmwater forum and wasn’t getting much of a response so I deleted it…changed a word or two and am delighted with the info in this forum.

I found one:

Thanks again, Al.

Greg F - yup - I got it, and love it. I forget the person who added it - apologies there.

Anyhow - tail of deer hide (leftovers from spinning, etc).
Body of deer hair (stacked to give it some flair, but not spinning flair).
Ears of deer hide (again, from leftovers)
Head I believe was dubbed. However, I have switched to a tan craft felt.
Eyes were just marker dabs.
No wiskers were noted (I think) - but can be added.

The thing I found with the body was to wrap the next lot of hair right in the kink of the previous one (where it met the hook shank). This gave it the kick to form the body.

darrell,

Ya know, reading what Al said about trout turning to meat to feed their growing appetites has got me to thinking. (DANGER!)

I wonder if I should start bringing little snack bags to the stream with me. You know, a few actual mice, maybe a cheese ball or two. Just to leave for the fish. “A little somethin’ for the effort.” So they’re not always chewing a mouthful of hair and hooks. So they can get bigger. Even a ham sandwich for the biggest ones.

Or not.

Here’s a pattern I’ve run across in searching…anyone have any experience with it? …looks like a simple ty…The “Morrish Mouse”

nice step by step.

That’s the one that was posted here on FAOL a while ago. Thanks.

A couple more if the links work… A calico mouse and a pair of mouserats.

Thanks, John…hope you enjoy the site…

Does anyone have experience with this fly or have opinions about it…?

It’s the “Morrish Mouse”.
