motor on kickboat

has anyone used a electric motor on a kickboat? When floating a river or lake it would be nice to move to or through different faster comments on setup would be appreciated. thx.

Most people here (CA) do not use motors on kickboats. In California, once you put a motor on a watercraft, you have to register it with DMV and pay the associated license fees an taxes.

Same here, Tailingloop. Once it’s motorized, you need numbers and a tag.

I would probably put one on mine but then I would have to register the boat. Florida state law requires any powered watercraft to be registered and numbered. About $30 a year, I think. I would probably have to pay a heavy fine if I didn’t register, used a motor, and got caught by a game warden (FWC officer). Not worth it to me so I think I’ll stick with the oars .

By kickboat I assume you mean pontoon…pretty much all of us here in CO will use trolling motors with our 'toons since a couple of the lakes we fish frequently are larger and prone to wind. Without one we wouldn’t be able to cover nearly as much water. We do have to have them registered ($24) but no big deal. It’s definitely well worth it to cover more water and not have to row back against against a nasty head wind. As far as setup it depends on your boat. Just make sure the weight capacity is sufficient to carry the extra weight of the battery and motor and make sure you have sturdy deck on the back to hold the battery weight. Most pontoons have a sturdy motor mount or an accessory that can be purchased to mount one. later, SPB
