I have good news - actually more good news, no bad news at all. How about those apples?
Hey?
The good news is, I’m much improved. We have a full issue up this
week for your reading enjoyment, some instructional, some to add
to your onboard data base of fly fishing information,
hopefully enough to keep your mind involved until you can either
go fishing, or spend some time in our Chat Room or Bulletin Board
to keep you sane. Might was well get some new habits established
so when winter hits you are already protected from that nasty thing
called ‘cabin fever or the shack nasties.’
From the top, the shoulder is coming along nicely. Physical therapy
three times a week, and yes I’m pretty sore the days when I’m not
having therapy. But it is getting better - and my surgeon says I’ll
probably have close to 100% recovery. Hurrah! If I were a few years
younger I’d be so healthy it would be obscene. Not bad at all for
an old bat.
The toe (which you may not have heard about), was accidentally
stepped on and smushed is on schedule, the nail is totally gone
on my left big toe. But the good news is I met a very nice lady
doctor who is the local foot doctor, and she did a dandy job and
took me as an emergency, no appointment, and hasn’t yelled at me yet.
We did miss a couple of issues of FAOL - but I think between the
Fish-In and my surgery we don’t get too many discredits for that
one. I should mention we had over 6,000 emails when we returned
from the Idaho Fish-In. I went though all of them and did not
block delete any - but in case you’ve tried to contact us with no
response, please let me know. Our apologies.
Idaho never disappoints us. The Three Rivers Resort is probably
the most perfect set up for a group like ours we can ever find.
However - if you know of a place which even comes close and has
catchable fish, we would certainly be interested in hearing about
it. It is fun to return to a place because you do become familiar
with what is where - but it is fun to explore new regions as well.
I’d love to see a Canadian fish-in - but Quebec is a long haul
for us. Keep this stuff in mind as you travel and fish in your
area - you may have a great place our folks would really enjoy
…and we’re pretty open minded.
I do have a request of you all. How about writing up an article
for all of rest of us here on something neat you did this summer.
Doesn’t have to be terribly long, and if you’re concerned about
the quality of your writing, think of it as writing a ‘what I did
on my summer vacation’ letter to your mom or dad.’ Really, you
might be pleasantly surprised at how well it comes out.
And besides, it is really great fun to see something you wrote
in print here.
Since I was nursing a recovering shoulder and not allowed to fish
on our Idaho Fish-In trip, I have a comment or two to make about
the gals who attend the fish-ins and do not fish. Hurrah for you.
What good sports you are. I felt terribly left out, and just awful.
I wanted to play with fly rods like we usually do, and a couple of
the guys had new rods which they offered me to try - and I didn’t
dare. Terrible. Awful. Sucked big time. Oh I watched the water,
the clouds, looked for fish, birds, butterflies, frogs - took my
watercolors and did not even get them wet. I absolutely hated
not fishing. So there. I am not a good sport. Got that out of
my system (for now). Having to deal with pain did not leave me
my charming self of old - and I do apologize for that. I suspect
were I to make a decision to go or stay home under the same conditions
again, I will stay home. I do not wish to put a damper on everyone’s fun.
The last thing is both bad and good news.
Our dear friend Neil Travis, who also writes the From a Journal…
column for us, said farewell to his wife Bonnie as she slipped from
the mortal bonds of earth during the night of Oct. 13th. A funeral
service for her will be held in Livingston, Montana, October 22nd at
Livingston Bible Church at 1:00 PM. There also is an announcement
on the Bulletin Board.
And the peace which passeth all understanding be with you all.
