Rogue body, Stimi wing/hackle, and a foam lip to make it push a bit of water. Used to be a real nice video on this fly from the Oregon flyfishing blog, but it seems to have disappeared; pity.

body - 2mm foam rust
wing - elk hair
hackle - brown
lip - 2mm foam tan
Part 1
insert needle in vise, slide foam (gap width) onto needle and start thread
pull foam forward and create 1st segment with 2 soft wraps; gradually tighten (too much tension, too quickly and you’ll cut the foam)
pull foam back, “split the uprights” - move thread forward between the strips and wrap up the needle a bit
repeat tying sequence until you have a long enough body; half hitch x 2, trim, SHHAN the wraps
slide the body off the needle, insert point of (debarbed) hook into the front of the body; push the point thru the underside of the 2nd to last segment
Scott, you continue to amaze me with such fabulous SBS photo work…I love it! Sure thing that anyone who has never tied before could certainly learn how to just by reading your posts. Thanks so much for your ongoing lessons in fly construction…it certainly has helped me out.
Replaced the Rogue-style body of the original; no needles required here. May try it in 2mm foam, as well.
