Montana Fish-In...interest in?

Okay, so it’s getting to be the time of year when some of us have REALLY got cabin fever, well, I do at least.
I know there are already a few fish-ins around the country this year, of which I’m really hoping to make it to the Michigan fish-in.

I’m sitting up here thinking to myself, why not have one here in Montana, there is sooooooo much great water here, and it seems like there are a lot of folks who come this way anyway, so why not have one. If not this year, with some planning we could have a great one next year.

Just a thought…so, who would be interested in doing a summer or fall-ish fish in here?

TT

we join the hoards in late July-early August, so would be there at that time and would come quite far to join in the fun!

TT,

We’re interested, depending on the time of year. With the daughter’s wedding this year, travel funds will be limited.

GASP!!!

I’d LOVE it!!!

Wow ! When, where ? Will i be needing my 9wt? I’d really like to do this !

Cheers,

TT,

Montana is a B I G state. Where were you thinking of having one. You would not want it to be held any time close to the Idaho Fish-In.

Larry —sagefisher—

I like the idea of a MT Fish-In. Where and when do you have in mind? Then there is the potential schedule conflict with other established gatherings like Larry mentioned?

where and what time?

Am going to miss the Idaho fishin this year, have a trip planned for that time, 2 days in Reno, 3 days in Angels Camp CA, 5 days in Windsor CA when I hope to fish the Russian river, 2 days in South Tahoe, then home. July and August are a bit busy but might be workable, would defenitely try!

Maybe some fishing on the Milk River?

John

I’d be there if everything aligns just right, but it is definitely a long shot.

If it is just after Labor Day, there’s a chance that I could make it. I think it would be a blast.

It’d be a looong shot for me too, though I like to very much. If the stars all aligned just right, we could “commute” together Greg, at least for about 90% of the distance.

That would help with the economics of it. A long shot for a long drive! 16 hours to Billings from my house.

Well…it seems there is at least SOME interest. I really don’t have a thought on where…yet. LF might have a few good ideas. If we have one this year, I would at least tlike it to be somewhere we would have a great chance of catching fish. Sad to say, I’m not an expert on where that would be, but I do hope to change that somewhat here this summer, lol.

I know from planning one in MO, that there is no way to get a date that everyone would be happy with, so I’ll open the thread up for suggestions on spots, and then do a little research to see what the best time of the year typically is for some of the more popular rivers that are suggested. I’d hate to pick one and then have everyone show up to fish when the fishing isn’t good, lol.

I absolutely don’t want to interfere with the WA fish-in, might try to make that one too, be a great bike trip. So, you can count on it being a different date for sure.

It’s just a thought as of now, but if I think we could pull something fun off, then I’ll just have to get a little more serious about it. Suggestions with accomodations will be most welcome.

TT.

Does anyone think Twin Bridges would be a good idea?

Cheers,

MontanaMoose

Either Twin Bridges or Dillon would be good choices. You are right in the heart of some fantastic fishing in the southwest area of Montana. The upper Beaverhead has some decent public access. The Big Hole has less public access, but there are some areas where you can fish. You aren’t that far from the Ruby or the Madison or the Jefferson. There are some good lakes to fish in the area, with Clark Canyon Reservoir being the best bet. There is a lake over by Wisdom that is the headwaters for the Big Hole and has a decent population of Grayling, plus a wide assortment of other fish.

I’m thinking, with everything that has already been scheduled that I might just start planning one for next year. I’m looking at the three-forks area. I haven’t fished it yet, but will the beginning of June. I’d like to offer the most bang for everyone’s buck, and to have four major rivers at everyones disposal seems like a pretty good deal…right now. I can certainly be convinced otherwise. And, if it is a success, then who’s to say we have to have it in the same place every year?

Keep the suggestions coming though, I need all the help I can get. I’ve alot of exploring to do this year, lol.

I’ll be checking out all the areas that are suggested though.

So, who thinks they would be able to make it if we had a…preliminary one this year? I think if those of us who can make it could put our heads together, we could come up with a REALLY good one for next year that more folks would be able to make with a bit more notice, lol.

TT.

I’d love it. I just hope it’s not early August…

Since our firstborn is due August 6.

So, who thinks they would be able to make it if we had a…preliminary one this year?
if it’s late July, me and Best Fishing Buddy.
Poke 'Em, first children usually arrive late!
