Missoula Rocks

Yesterday, the Missoula Food Bank had a surge at their local store, giving out more turkeys and turkey dinner fixings in three hours than they usually give out the entire first day of Thanksgiving week. By the end of the day, it was clear that the supply of turkeys was woefully short of the local need.

Today a parade of people brought over 400 turkeys to the Food Bank. Enough that everyone coming to the Food Bank locations today will be able to have a traditional turkey dinner on Thursday.

Way to go, Missoulians !!

John

That’s awesome John. Americans will dig down and give to support their fellow man even when it hurts a little.

If we sell our building - I live in a NYC co-op - I hope to be living there.

Follow the link to this morning’s news article on how it came down.

John

Just goes to show all we need to do is rely on one another for help. I’ll let the rest of my thoughts be just that.

Randy - if your dream becomes a reality let us help! We can at least point you in the right direction.

LF - will do. We were so close. We finally had the votes to sell, then the developer got cold feet. I kept thinking of how I might soon be living so close to three great trout rivers, no more having to commute almost two hours to northern Westchester.

Everyone I contacted loves living in Missoula.

If anyone knows a better fly fishing city let me know.

Randy

they are good folks to be commended too. however if we don’t soon do something to get things right the situation will get worse. that’s all the further i am going with that.

thanks to the folks that stepped up.

Like Uncle Jesse said, Americans step up even when it hurst a little. It’s a funny trait, but when it hurts a bit is when we’re more likely to step up.

… to a guest column from the executive director of the Missoula Food Bank in today’s Missoulian.

This food bank operation is unusual, if not unique, in that it does not require people coming in for help to establish / document need. If you ask, you are helped. That simple.

The final tally of donated Thanksgiving dinners was much higher than previously reported. Our community has a head start on Christmasgiving.

John

P.S. If you have similar stories about things like this in your communities, please post them here. Maybe the “good news” threads do more for our Bulletin Board members and visitors than most imagine ??

That is great John. There are alway people with need and people who are willing to share their bounty. Our church maintains a food and clothes closet year round. Unfortunately due to the size of the county we have to maintain records and limit the extent of our assistance long term. There are over 800,000 residents in Gwinnett County with over 135,000 students in public schools. We know some people take advantage of our charity, but better that than not help the really needy.

I am going to take your suggestion and start another thread of what’s good or great about my community.
