I’ll tie #24 johnny flash.
No problem hoboflyfisher, what are you wanting to tie for this one?
I hope to get your midges out to you in Monday’s mail. There are couple extra for your fly box, Chris. Thanks for heading this up.
This is going to be a neat swap at the end.
I did a mix of black and grey so it’s a 50/50 shot which one will be in the box you get. Both colors work on the streams and rivers here.
Diane
My flies will be in the mail tomorrow. I have enclosed extra’s for the swapmeister. Thanks for letting me join in on this swap. And thanks to Chris for hosting this swap. John
CK for what ever reason you have me down for two spots or ties on #5 and #9. I said I would tie a Trojan Midge on #5. Could you please fix this problem. Thank you, Hobo
I am sorry Hobo, I have fixed the double entry and you are all set with the Trojan Midge
How about a Dry Midge…?
If so I’m in with the Fore & Aft…
If you’ll accept a nymph or pupa pattern, I’m sure I can come up with something TBD to contribute to the swap.

I’ll join up with a size 14 gummy worm if there is still time
-Hillard
I will jump in on this one.
I will do my black fly

Seems like you’ve got ten now, so I’ll bow out to make room for them.
Thanks anyway…
Will
Ok grey fox, I was gone on a trip for the weekend and found that a few people wanted in and there was only a couple spots left. I hope you join the next one.
I seriously doubt that a #14 gummi worm qualifies as a midge.
My address has been posted for all of you that have completed your flies and ready to mail.
Mr. Blur, I am not sure as to HMD’s #14 gummy Worm. I have seen alot of Midge Larva, so not to sure if this is a version of that. I am under the impression that his flies are completed and ready to be mailed.
Ok, Since I am fairly new at hosting I want to get some opinions. Is the majority vote regarding HMD’s Gummy Worm pattern that it is not consistant with a true Midge Pattern? The way that it has been described from HMD is as follows :
"The pattern is a Skip Morris Chronomid pattern that can be tied in a variety of sizes, and colors. I tend to tie this pattern in 10-16 with pearl cyrstal flash under body with clear scud back as the over body for use in lakes. Correct me if I am wrong but Chronomids and midges are basically the same thing right? Except a midge is just a river grown Chronomid.
In my mind I could have called the pattern a gummy midge larva except it is not my pattern to name."
Now I know I like to see all of the differnt patterns and techniques and since the swap was set up as any type of Midge swap. Would this be ok with everyone?
That pattern would be fine with me. I really would like to see it. John
chironomid=midge in my book.
I’ve just never fished/seen them that large.
I do however understand in bc they do get large chiro hatches.

I’m only 40 min for the BC border and we have lots of large chronomids in the lakes around here as well. I was seeing shucks that were almost 20mm long last weekend so a size 14 isn’t that huge to me. I have a friend who grew up in Kamloops who actually fishes and ties size 8 chronomids and does very well on his home lakes.
I actually find this pattern more productive around here in size 10. I tie it in a variety of colors :black, brown, green, tan, red, amber, and clear. The look of this fly can be changed by changing the underbody of over body color or material. This fly is more of a style than a specific pattern.
It probably can be tied alot smaller than I tie it but I don’t have alot of experience tying on small sized hooks. I’m just starting out tying on smaller hooks (#16), and they seem microscopic to me. I’ve only been tying for just under a year, though I’ve fished all my life.
Gummy Worm/midge larva
nymph hook (your choice ): #10-16 (#14 used)
Thread: Uni 8/0 black or color to match body
thorax metal bead: your choice of color sized to hook. (gold used)
Underbody: flashabou flash or tinsel in desired color (pearl flashabou used)
Overbody: scudback or latex strip in clear or color desired. (clear used)
Rib: fine wire in choice of color (copper used)
By changing the underbody and overbody colors a variety of effects can be accomplished, my version of this fly has a translucent, holographic like sheen. Though a bit large, I gave a few of these to a friend last week who landed a couple of nice Bull trout on these size 14’s and he said the grayling couldn’t get enough of them.

Ok, well I know that we have 5 tiers that are willing to allow the pattern. I guess unless we have a bunch that oppose it I say let him Tie On!! After this kind of deliberation I am anxious to see it.
