Fished with my brother for the first time in…well over 20 years.
I gave him some quick flyfishing instructions and a fly rod…and he caught his first fish of the year, and first fish on a fly rod. Great start!
I caught Bluegills, Green Sunfish, Redear Sunfish, and some really nice Golden Shiners. Several shiners measured 10" or a little more.

Hope your brother enjoyed his fly fishing experience. Large Golden Shiners were another fish I liked pursuing growing up in south Jersey.

“Golden” shiners…what a fine fish. Many of the bait guys on the local delta think of them as gold for large LM’s.

I enjoy catching those Golden Shiners. Small mouths, so tough to catch. They hit and spit quickly. They do fight well…kept thinking I’d hooked a bass!
