Michigan Fish-In Events

Here are a few thing’s that will be happening during the August Fish-In

JC & LF will be holding casting lesson’s and demo’s.

Eric Austin will hold a fly tying lesson.

deleo will bring some bamboo rod’s to tryout.

At least one trip to Spike’s Keg-O-Nail’s for thier famous burger!!

If I can talk ohiotuber into it we will do a pancake breakfast one morning!

A Friday Evening Cook-Out. Bring your own meat and a dish to pass.

A distance casting contest on Saturday with a drawing for a rod (for more info read further).

I’ve booked two afternoon float trips with one of our member’s “Capt Tony”. Gate’s Lodge (sponsor) also offer’s float trip’s.

Another Lodge is holding room’s for us so there is still time to find lodging on the river.

I suggest a Google search for “Au Sable River, Michigan” to find place’s to eat, visit, etc.

For information on Lodging, float trip’s and canoe/kayak rental contact me via email.

Thing’s are filling up fast for the summer so don’t delay too long.

Don’t forget the Michigan Fish-In August 14th to the 20th. The Holy Water’s of the Au Sable await you!!

Aw, we just gotta have a distance competition. Everybody likes to either be in one, or watch the things. We can put one together that will be ‘fair’ to everyone who enters. Who knows, I might have to defend my title!
And bring all your ‘stuff’ for the ‘swap-table’. We leave it up all the time. Mark your name and price on them. Usually many things just go for free.
Impromptu tying happens at anytime, anyplace. Got some unusual ‘gear’, rods, reels etc? Bring them along to show to others. We’re all there to see and learn.

Jack - How will we know who is who? Do we just look for trout bum type or the ones who are sleeping under the trees with fly rod across their knees and hat tipped down over their head? I suppose it will be good to guess, anyone seen walking around in a daze at the lodge and banging into walls is one of us too? Tounge-n-cheek

Jonezee,
There are FAOL name tags you can print from this site. I am unable to remember how to access them, but you can do a search. I have a pin on type plastic name tag holder on a zinger that the name tag can be slipped into. Also, how about those FAOL patches on a favorite shirt or hat?..or FAOL on your forehead written with a “Sharpies” marker?..etc, etc.

You can call me Mike & you can call me Mikey…Just remember that this site’s about sharing!

I suppose a tatoo would be a little over-board? I have a hunch it won’t take long to get aquainted. My black F-150 will have a FAOL bumper sticker on it and a Sisters Oregon “Catch and Release Wild Trout” license frame on the Michigan plate. 52 days and counting…

I’m ordering more patch’s so I can have a clean shirt every day with an FAOL patch!!
Well…Maybe every other day!!!
I’ll also be looking for pin or clip on name tags.

There needs to be a big ‘art-material/craft-board-stuff’ board where everybody ‘sign’s in’. Name tags could be available there. Don’t forget a black Sharpie on a string for the board too…
Probably at Gates is the place for the board…

On the sign-in board, you put your name (and screen/bb name) and where you are staying. That way people can find you. Perhaps one at Kneff Lake and one at Gates as well…?
It looks like we will have people strung out at various places, and we need to make sure everyone feels included.

I understand the Tuber will be sleeping under the bridge…I hope there’s lots of room under the bridge?

JC;
Gate’s would be the best place for the BB, Name Tags (I can pick up a 100 pin on’s cheap)and registration. I also urge everyone to have an emergency contact number should someone need to contact them. I’m sure cell phone’s will be in abundance and, if we have coverage, may be included in the registration information.
Name Tags should also include your bb name.
I’ll email the proposed event schedule soon. It’s a very loose schedule of a few event’s that we may like to attend.

Jonezee,
Yeah, but WHICH bridge?

i’ll look for you under the wakely bridge, tuber. let me know when you need a fresh cup of coffee, I’ll float one by from the canoe.

What’s a fish in…?

L.F. I use Nextel and it is very iffy around Grayling and thereabouts. Your suggestion about emergancy contact number is excellent…When Jack Hise and the Tuber stumble off in the dark and we find them on our last day there it will be important to contact next of kin.

Jonezee;
I plan on taping one of those orange flags the dune buggy’s use to 'tuber so we can find him in a crowd.

Hey California Bob
Look on the left menu, click on Fish-Ins and the first item in the menu is the question “What is a Fish-In.” Please read that and get back to us with any other questions.

Don’t worry about losing Tuber. Just crack open a bottle of Bushmills and wave it aqround to spread the aroma. He’ll find you. I’ll be the bearded one trying to push past him.

all leaders tangle; mine are just better at it than most. Jim

Rainbowchaser;
It could be which bearded one wins!! You’re both about the same size so I’d have to give even odd’s. I’ve got to amend that! I’ve waded and hunted with you, 'tuber is a step above a couch potato so the odd’s are in your favor!!
mcsteff;
Thank’s for the help for California Bob.

I’m quite sure there will be a community campfire or 2 in the evening’s where we can exchange the day’s fishing report’s (Read Tall Tale’s!!)

Jack, You’re posts sound as if your more excited than a kid getting ready for the first day of kindergarten. I am also really looking forward to this. I can reason out that a trout stream has to have a certain amount of remoteness. That going to Google with au sable river quest made me feel like we would drive past the lodge and see the golden arches at the end of the road. This is a very large river so I hope it can support a crowd. Is the tubing, canoeing and kayaking further down stream? I’ve seen a lot of rivers and I hope that this one isn’t anything like them. Jack, I’m looking forward to this because you have put so much work into this it has to be fun. Now let’s you and I take a deep breath and see if we can sit quietly for a while longer.
