Mercer's Foam Parachute (variation) SBS

Only real difference from the original is a synth wing instead of calftail. Tied here as a flav; change to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 320 #14
thread - MFC 8/0 olive
tail - grizzly dyed olive
rib - Krystal Flash pearl
abdomen - dubbing olive
thorax/pfd - 1mm foam olive
wing - Congo Hair charcoal grey
hackle - grizzly dyed olive (oversize by 1)

Part 1

mash barb, start thread; wrap to point above barb and make a small thread bump

even tips on some hackle fibers, measure (shank length); ti in/trim butts

move thread forward, take a hank of CH under the shank; pull up and post the wing

lay a strip (not quite gap width) of foam against the wing; tie in at base of post

pull the foam up on the far side; tie at base of post

Part 2

tie in KF, wrap to tail

dub thread, dub abdomen

counterwrap rib; tie off/trim (add a bit more dubbing where it meets the foam)

tie in hackle (shiny side down)

wrap down the post; tie off/half hitch x 2 at base; trim hackle tip, SHHAN

Part 3

trim foam close but leave a bit

trim wing
