March Brown

I went to the show in somerset today and stumbled across March Brown Ltd. Its rods, particularly the Hidden Water 9 ft 7 wt 7 piece, seemed perfectly suited to my backcountry hiking/canoeing trips. As far as i can tell, March Brown seems to be a fairly new company, since I’ve found only its site and a few related links on the internet. Can anyone that has fished these rods in the past comment on them?
Thanks for any input,
Keith

We have heard of them, and asked some time ago for a rod we could see and cast for a possible Product Review. The rod was to be returned at our expense of course.
They said they would be delighted. Never received a rod, nor heard from them again.

I own their Baden Powell 7pc. model 8.5’ in 5wt. I have fished this rod and like it. It is especially nice (and the reason I bought it) to travel with, both pack packing and on a plane.

Couldn’t find a price range on their website. Is it mid-range, or high-end?

I bought a 7 piece 4 wt at the Arkansas conclave for $170…retail $210. Use it for travel. Haven’t tried it out yet. I need some 4wt line to put on my reel.

I purchased an 8’6" 6wt a few years back at a show in Ft. Washington PA. I had never seen this brand before but figured it would make a good back up rod. 7 pieces in a tube under 18 inches long. The rod casts suprisingly well. The pieces all fit well and I haven’t cast off a section yet. I payed a suprising low 120 bucks for the rod. last day and last hour of show. It is a Baden Powell “Special Edition”

Yeah, all I ever fish now are march brown travel fly rods …absolutely the best fly rods made in my book (and I must own 40 or more). In terms of performance, you won’t find anything better but on top of that, they will actually fit INSIDE your suitcase. I snapped a tip once by accident and they had a replacement out to me THE NEXT DAY. Overall they’re an amazing company that goes above and beyond for the customer. I don’t want to sound like a commerical but just send them an email: flyrod@marchbrown.com or visit their website: marchbrown.com, you won’t not be dissapointed.
