i was happy i got a big box today then i saw they customs went into it
it was my 9wt and they stole spare spool and backing
labeled it craft supplies and stuck big blasted fee on it.
whats next. felling like s*** t today and broke as hell have to find another spool i supose too.
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I can sympathize with you … flew North west from Albany to Minneapolis this past week and got here and my Ross reel was gone! filed a complaint so will see what happens …
all i know is the customs form has black fur on it not shure why
and they say its knitting supplies, when the shipper was verry nice expling what was in there
how it got to be knitting suppies a big swetter? 9 foot knitting needles?
worst thing fly and tie is that backing and spool is gone, nevor heard a postal worker say how can fly fishing rods turn into craft supplies. il post it as stolen if i had digital camara i would show how much fur is on the back of customs label it must be bald now. waited so long script and saved for it.
how were do i find that backing how were do i find that spool. if dogs got it as toys
let me find that dog i got hair sample. let me at it.
I have flown several times with my fly fishing equipment in my possession at all times, pursuant to TSA’s guideline found on the bottom of the page at http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/ … _1188.shtm I’m going to Oregon in September and plan on taking my 7wt, reel and all tackle in my carry on baggage. I did this last year to Oregon and this year to Florida. No questions…no problems. Also carried a printout of the TSA guideline just in case I got a worker trying to pull a fast one on me and increase his fly fishing equipment collection.
Packing ANYTHING of value into checked luggage with low paid government employees rummaging through your socks and underwear, is a recipe for disaster. To think otherwise is naive. If you trust your government that much, please send me your money and fishing equipment for safekeeping. TRUST ME! I’ll take good care of it. I’m a really a nice guy. Just ask my parole officer.
If you want to fish at a destination, either hand carry your stuff on the plane (this is why I have 4-piece and 7-piece rods that fit in the overhead compartment of any plane) or ship it ahead insured and ship it back to yourself at the end of your trip by FedEx or UPS (not USPS). Yes, this is expensive and inconvenient, but you know it will be there when you get there. The alternative is to arrange to borrow or rent equipment on the other end, and eliminate all hassles. Surely anyone can use rented equipment for the length of a vacation. If not, you’re way too fussy and probably need therapy.
I’m not so sure that it’s the TSA folks… I have a friend who is with security for Jet Blue, and she claims that most of the pilferage is baggage handlers. One thing I do is I use one of the AAA locks that TSA is supposed to have a key for. Barring that, I use plastic cable ties to “secure” my luggage – doesn’t stop the determine thief, but maybe it will direct them from my bag to, uh… yours.
I would never put anything of value in checked luggage. Sometime when you are waiting for a flight, go to the window and watch the gorillas throw luggage around.
