Made my daughter happy and she made me proud

While in Arkansas last week on vacation I had promised to help my daughter catch her first fish on her fly rod (built by her dad of course). On Friday morning I took her to Dry Run Creek and helped her move upstream casting to likely spots. She hooked a fish almost immediately, but had some line handling issues and he got off. it was pretty cool watching her cast her rod and trying to help her without being too demanding or critical. A friend of mine who is involved with the Tan Flies club at Cotter High School came down and met us at Dry Run and helped out a bunch, Thanks to Marc Oakes for sharing his time. In the end it was a sucessful day as you can see by the smile. I was smiling too…

Satch, That is too cool for words!!
My daughter’s first fish was a 4 lb channel cat,of course, she was only four and using a Zebco 33 and a minnow. Somehow my experience is a bit different…weird thing about it is ,she saw some bubbles and said there was a big ol’ catfish there…cast to it with her minnow and bobber and wham. My wife and I nearly fell out of the boat.
So glad to see you passing the fly fishing “bug” on in your family.

That’s too cute. Nice fish fo her first time out.

I am proud for her.My youngest son almost gets teary eyed at the mention of Dry Run Creek as he turned 16 last year.Says it is great to drive but horrible to lose the best fishing he has ever seen.I told him those days of me watching him fish all day are over, but I miss all the fun we had there together.

congratulations to your daughter ,my 12 year old son caught his first fish in june

 A tip of my hat to that young lady and to you too, Satchel! Nice fish and a great job!

Satchel and daughter… all I can say is FANTASTIC!!!

You’re both so lucky to have each other to fish with. When I was that age my dad showed me some woodworking and I’ve held onto those skills and interest for my whole life. Right now my daughter is a militant vegan so there’s no fishing together. I’m jealous of the two of you! Way to go!
