I appears from the way the hairs are badly curved that you may be fighting a bad patch of hair. It’s tough to make a good looking fly with bad materials.

I’ve never tied a madam x. I associate them with western stoneflies and don’t carry them here. I did this one with some straight deer hair just to see how it would come out.
