Lookig for a book

I’m trying to find a book on foam flies.I know there are several books with a few in them.I would like know if anyone has seen a book devoted to the subject.

harrison steeves has a fine one…I believe it’s called tying terrestrials with feathers, fur and foam.

Harrison Steeves has a book out called Tying Flies With Foam, Fur, and Feathers. I have not seen the book, but I know that he has been innovating with foam for a long time. (Since at least 1996, when he sent me a cicada.) If you do a search with his name in google, or whatever, you will find numerous patterns he has devised also.

Don

Also …“Tying Foam Flies”…by Skip Morris

Having read both I would get the Harrison Steevs’ book. The Skip Morris book is also very good, but I tied more patterns from the Steeves’ book - the Plumpy in particular is a fly I really like.

Regards,

Alberto

I have both books. They both have their strengths. Skip Morris is especially strong in describing tying methods clearly. I think I have all or nearly all of his books on tying.

Maybe it’s not saying much (because of my tying), but I learned to tie almost 100% from his books, and I like them. At least in the beginning.

I like the Harrison Steeves book a lot also. I did think it was a little curious the way he blasted Rainy’s foam materials as being inferior in print. I’ve never seen anything like that before.

He also seems to have a financial interest in Locofoam – which was invented by someone he knows. Just bear that in mind when you read his book. It’s still good. Get it and read it anyway.

Thank you both books are now on order

I’d have to agree with steeves then…Having never heard of him or his book…But I have had the miss fortune of purchaseing Rainy’s foam products…and They discintagrated in less than a year…For the price they sell this stuff for…It sure did not live up to my expectations…It litterially turned to dust when I tried to use the stuff…

And I’ll not waste another cent on any product, which bares their name…Thanks…Now I think I have found a great book , from an honest man…I Like books and ppl, Who truely are for the tyer…

“I’ve often wondered why it is that so many anglers spend so much money on,and pay so much attention to.the details on the wrong end of the fly line.If they took as much care in selecting or tying their flies as they did in the selection of the reel and rod,They might be able to gain the real extra edge that makes it possible to fool a fish that has,in fact, seen it all before” A.K.Best

“Wish ya great fishing”

I can?t vouch for his book as I haven?t read it but I can vouch for his foam:

I would assume anybody that makes such terrific foam products must know a little about using them.

Hey teasels,

Good choice to get both the Steeves and the Morris book. They are both excellent. 8T
